Best of Summer in Warsaw 2026: Spanish Cuisine

EL PATIO WARSAW

EL PATIO is the kind of restaurant that makes you rethink geography. The first visit feels like an excursion, something you tack onto a walk through Powsin’s leafy surroundings. By the second or third, you’ll find yourself opening Uber and quietly accepting that your monthly transport budget has acquired a new line item.

At first glance, the building gives little away. Resembling the sort of roadside hotel you’d drive past without a second thought, it hardly screams destination dining. Only the giant bull’s head mounted above the entrance hints that something Iberian is happening inside. Yet beyond the doors, EL PATIO has quietly become one of Warsaw’s strongest addresses for Spanish cuisine, proving that great restaurants don’t always choose obvious locations.

At the center of it all is owner and chef Ángel, whose background in hospitality management is evident from the moment you sit down. He works the room with genuine enthusiasm, making sure guests are looked after both culinary and otherwise. His warmth is matched by serious kitchen credentials.

The menu avoids clichés. There’s no token paella. Instead, a seafood rice dish arrives packed with the flavors of the coast, the sort of plate that briefly convinces you the Vistula has somehow emptied into the Mediterranean. Fried calamari, shrimp and mussels pair beautifully with an ice-cold beer on a summer evening, while tapas such as croquettes, patatas bravas and chorizo simmered with wine and onions provide an excellent excuse to explore the restaurant’s thoughtfully assembled wine list, which ranges from affordable bottles to special-occasion splurges.

The standout dish of the evening was octopus served over boiled potatoes. In a city where octopus is too often grilled into submission, this version was astonishingly tender—soft, delicate and almost melting on the tongue.

Dessert brought a Basque cheesecake lighter than expected but no less satisfying, airy and cloud-like in texture. Meanwhile, Ángel’s childlike excitement over the delivery of a prized leg of 100% Iberian acorn-fed Pata Negra ham—”the Ferrari of jamón,” he declared—perfectly captured the spirit of the place: serious about food, never pretentious about it.
With a children’s corner and outdoor swing set, EL PATIO manages something rare: a restaurant that works just as well for families as it does for serious eaters willing to cross the city for a great meal. The journey is worth it. More than the food, what stays with you is the feeling that Ángel is building something. He has the restless energy of a man with plans, the kind who talks about ingredients, wine and jamón with equal parts expertise and excitement. If El PATIO is any indication, this won’t be the last time his name surfaces in Warsaw’s dining scene. When it does, remember you heard it here first.
