Officials at Warsaw’s Chopin Airport have announced the imminent opening of a capsule hotel – only the second such facility in the country.
Speaking to PAP on Monday, Stanisław Wojtera, the President of PPL, revealed that the capsules had already arrived for installation: “we do a lot to make Chopin Airport more comfortable,” he said, “and today capsules have arrived that will allow passengers to sleep before flights.”
Set to be located in the Non-Schengen zone of the airport, the hotel has been created with long-haul transit passengers in mind.
According to the airport’s press office, the self-service mini-hotel will open at some stage in the summer. “Our partner, who will operate the zone, is currently creating a price list,” they revealed. “Once that’s developed, we will inform passengers.”
Currently, only one capsule hotel can be found in Poland’s airports – opened last year, and run by the Italian-based firm Zzzleepandgo Lounge, so-called ‘resting pods’ at Modlin Airport can be booked online for prices of around PLN 170.
However, reviews have thus far been unkind with many users slamming the stringent check-in and check-out hours (8 p.m. and 8 a.m. respectively) and lack of basic creature comforts such as blankets and sound insulation.
As things stand, it is unknown who will operate the sleeping cabins at Chopin.
