Czarny Roman, one of Warsaw’s best-loved public figures, has been found dead in close proximity to the Center of Contemporary Art. So named for his penchant for immaculate black clothing, he was frequently sighted marching up Nowy Swiat, Chmielna and surrounding streets whilst shouting prophecies of doom.
A legendary local figure, recent years saw Czarny Roman ditch his trademark black colors for a fluffy pink onesie – the look might have changed, but the eccentric behavior didn’t. Seen as an icon of modern Warsaw, news of Czarny Roman’s death was broken by journalist Cezary Ciszewski and quickly went viral – already, calls are being made to see this mysterious figure of fascination commemorated with his own statue.
