The 6th edition of the Warsaw Animation Film Festival kicks off on November 18th, 2024, with the theme INTIMACY ON SCREEN.
Taking place from November 18th to 24th at Kino Amondo, Atlantic, Rejs and U20, this celebration of animation promises to deliver a week of exciting screenings, debates, and workshops. The festival begins with an opening event at 18:30 at Kino Atlantic on November 18th, setting the stage for the festival’s numerous events.
Throughout the week, attendees will be able to enjoy a variety of international short animated films across six competition categories – Professional Short Animated Film, Young Short Animated Film, Polish Short Animated Film and Erotic Short Animated Film. The program also includes special screenings such as the Ars Electronica 2023 program, organized in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum, and a curated selection of Mind Blow Movies by Weronika Płaczek, the director of the Animocje festival. Another highlight is the Panorama of Animated Erotica from the past decade.
In addition, the festival will showcase animated music videos and films that have won awards from the Polish Film Association in 2023, offering a unique opportunity to experience the best in animation from around the world.
Beyond screenings, WAFF is a hub for intellectual and creative exchange. Workshops and debates will take place throughout the festival. On November 18th and 19th, U20 will host a workshop on minimalist animation, led by Magdalena Pilecka. On November 20th, a debate on music in animation and animation in music will feature experts such as Wojtek Siejak, Łukasz Rusinek, Patryk Zakrocki, and Martyna Koleniec. Additionally, on November 22nd, a debate focused on animation and sex education will take place, with Iza Plucińska and sexual educators participating in the discussion.
The festival is organized by the Ex Anima Foundation and is co-financed by the City of Warsaw, with support from partners including Platige Image, the Andrzej Wajda Center for Film Culture, Kino Amondo, Kino Rejs, Kino Atlantic, and the Austrian Cultural Forum.
