On October 29, at Kino Kultura in Warsaw, the premiere of JAZZ PO POLSKU: Around the World will showcase an extraordinary journey through the international jazz scene.
This documentary, directed by Maciej Głowiński, chronicles the adventures of young Polish jazz musicians as they tour globally, offering a unique perspective on music, improvisation, and the friendships formed along the way. The screening, set to begin at 8:00 PM, will be preceded by a discussion with the filmmakers.
Maciej Głowiński’s Around the World is a vibrant music documentary filmed over an ambitious global tour. Starting in May 2023, the JAZZ PO POLSKU project brought Polish jazz musicians to diverse destinations including Bangladesh, China, India, Israel, and Japan. In just under 18 months, they performed over 150 concerts across 22 countries on three continents. The film highlights how music, as a universal language, connects people worldwide, transcending cultural and linguistic barriers. Nearly 100 musicians participated in this endeavor, with leading appearances by Polish artists Piotr Damasiewicz, Mateusz Gawęda, Tomasz Chyła, and several international collaborators like Ehud Ettun and David Alfandary. The project was founded by Jakub Krzeszowski, who worked alongside director Głowiński to bring this cinematic celebration to life.
Supported by Poland’s Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and recognized by the Association of Polish Filmmakers, Around the World brings jazz’s boundless spirit to audiences across continents. JAZZ PO POLSKU, which began as a concert tour, is now a three-year international initiative spanning four continents, with over 150 performances planned through the end of 2025. Inspired by Polish explorer Paweł Edmund Strzelecki’s groundbreaking global travels in the 19th century, the project reflects a tradition of cultural discovery, crossing borders just as Strzelecki once did.
So far, concerts have been held in countries such as Albania, Austria, Egypt, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan. Performing groups include well-known Polish ensembles such as the Confusion Project, JAH Trio, Kuba Wójcik Trio, and Tomasz Chyła Quintet, representing the diverse talent within Polish jazz.
Organized by the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation, this initiative collaborates with Polish diplomatic missions and international partners like the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Polish Airlines LOT, under the honorary patronage of Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The foundation’s mission is to promote young Polish jazz artists abroad, fostering international artistic collaborations and enhancing the global profile of Polish jazz.
