On October 19th, the Botanical Garden of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Powsin will host its annual Pumpkin Day, featuring the exciting Third Heavy Pumpkin Contest.
Last year’s champion, Dorotka, set a remarkable record of 907 kg, and there is eagerness to surpass this achievement in the upcoming season! The event will also see the special guest, the Ambassador of Mexico, Juan Sandowal Mendiolea, who will join the competition jury.
This event is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the beauty of autumn while engaging in various activities for all ages. Visitors can enjoy a vibrant autumn market showcasing plants and regional products, complete with tastings that highlight local flavors. The competition aims to promote pumpkin cultivation and its nutritional benefits, facilitate the exchange of farming experiences among participants, educate on pumpkin care and growth, and advocate for sustainable development practices.
The event will feature a range of artistic workshops and fun activities designed for both children and adults, including a pumpkin carving demonstration. One of the highlights includes a guided tour of the pumpkin collection led by educator Katarzyna Misiak, offering insights into the fascinating world of gourds. In the Botanica Cafe & Bistro, attendees can indulge in delightful pumpkin-based dishes, both sweet and savory.
And upon returning from Powsin and being inspired… it’s the perfect time to celebrate autumn. It’s a great opportunity to make the first pumpkin soup of the season, bake pumpkin pie with caramel, and even start preparing for Halloween by carving pumpkins! You choose how to spend your Pumpkin Day.
