Warsaw’s always had a sweet tooth, the difference being that it’s only in the past few years that it’s really embraced desserts as something to be placed on a pretty little pedestal and treated with awe. El Krepel does just that, presenting a range of elegant temptations lined up on the counter – yes there’s cakes, but it’s the donuts that have got the people talking.

Gorgeous in style, tantalizing treats include dulce de leche with cinnamon sugar or rich, creamy donuts topped with marshmallows. The work of Łukasz Kawaller (he of Hell’s Kitchen fame) and blogger / photographer / model Justyna Pankowska, it’s a charming, bijou space of fun, frilly style – think pretty pink seats and a wall overlaid with hundreds of rosebuds. Oozing relaxed femininity, El Krepel should yet become a city center star.
