Considering the bagel was born in Kraków, the lack of good ones in Warsaw has always been bewildering. Until now. From the people who gave you SAM – recognized as one of the top bakeries in the country – comes this bagel store.
Straight forward in its simplicity, visitors get a choice of four or so bagels, and a range of fillings that include cream cheese, salmon and fresh cucumber, to what’s rapidly becoming the house favorite: pink roast beef with a generous dab of horse radish. They don’t reinvent the wheel with their offer, but what they do is get it absolutely right.
Adding further reason to drop in are freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, some homemade cakes and a fridge full of SAM branded ice cream: the strawberry / rose is a work of utter magnificence. You can eat in, though with only about three tables (plus a small bench positioned street level), most choose to bag up and take-away. That just doesn’t matter though, because for the first time in living memory the Polish capital has the bagels it deserves…
