Tender Begins For Green Sports Zone

The city’s greenery authority have announced a tender for a City Sports Square in the vicinity of Ratusz Arsenał.

Selected by the public as part of the annual civic budget, the square would transform the unused space above the metro station and see it redeveloped as a space dedicated to sports and recreation.
“Similar projects – combining sport and recreation among greenery – have already been implemented,” said Aleksandra Majda-Butkiewicz of Zarząd Zieleni m.st. Warszawy. “The spaces by Centrum Nauki Kopernik and Świętokrzyska already enjoy great popularity, and soon the city will be able to enjoy one more such space close to the metro.”
The project will include the addition of a one-meter high embankment to buffer any noise from Andersa, as well as a “purple sensation” of trees and plants. The plans also account for exercise areas, as well as trails for rollerbladers, skateboarders and scooters. Other elements will include a series of benches, pergolas, wooden terraces and picnic areas.
Should everything go to plan, construction will begin in October and last around a year.
