Plans to revive Hala Gwardii were made public last week by the Warsaw-based architectural studio Bulanda, Mucha – Architecki. Their concept envisions the transformation of the eastern wing of the Hala Mirowska complex into a modern food and leisure market showcasing regional produce and eco foods.
Space has also been set aside for approximately 20 food & drink outlets, increasing speculation that Hala Gwardii will, to all intents and purposes, become Hala Koszyki’s first real legitimate rival.
Originally constructed between 1899 and 1901 on the instruction of Russian mayor Nikolai Bibikov, Hala Gwardii and Mirowska functioned as Warsaw’s largest market up until 1944.
