Some things are worth waiting for: though delivered behind schedule, the revamped promenade on the left side of the Wisła has won acclaim for transforming the riverfront. Launched in several stages (with some still to go), the latest section was officially opened yesterday by Warsaw’s mayor, Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz.
“You won’t find boulevards like this anywhere else,” said the Mayor during the opening ceremony, “not on the Tiber, the Thames or the Seine. This is one of the best promenades in Europe, possibly even the world.” The Mayor continued by adding that the regeneration of the riverside ranks among her greatest achievements, along with the introduction of the Veturilo bike-share system and the development of the second metro line.
To mark the opening of this 800-meter stretch of promenade, a host of events have been organized over the course of ‘the long weekend’. Highlights include a breakfast market on Saturday, as well as a dusk-till-dawn party later that day.
