Despite being widely hailed as a success, Donald Trump’s fleeting visit to Warsaw wasn’t completely without incident: Wednesday evening saw Greenpeace activists project a message onto the Palace of Culture announcing ‘No Trump, Yes Paris’. Their message was a reference to the US President’s withdrawal from the Paris Climate Agreement and quickly went viral across the world.
Though many have been quick to praise the success of President Trump’s visit, not all have been so easily pleased. The city’s Jewish community has criticized the President’s failure to visit the Monument of the Heroes of the Jewish Ghetto Uprising, pointing out that he is the first US President not to do so.
“We deeply regret that President Trump, though speaking in public barely a mile away from the monument, chose to break with that laudable tradition, alongside so many other ones,” read a statement released by Michael Schudrich, Poland’s Chief Rabbi. “We trust that this slight does not reflect the attitudes and feelings of the American people,” he added.
