The Warsaw Marriott, a symbol of Poland’s post-communist transformation, is closing after 35 years. Announced abruptly, the hotel’s reservation system and phone lines have ceased operation.
The iconic hotel, which welcomed guests like Taylor Swift and President Joe Biden, opened in October 1989, just as communism was falling. It was Marriott’s first Central European venture and quickly earned five-star status.
The hotel’s sudden closure follows a protracted legal dispute between the building owner and Marriott, particularly over issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Marriott confirmed its departure, citing the need for a smooth transition for guests and staff, but no official reason for the abrupt end has been provided.
