Not everyone is aware of the fact that Warsaw will host two major sport events in May.
One is the Europa League final, the other is the Warsaw Rugby Festival to be hosted by the Frogs & Co. RFC. Taking place every May since 1996 the rugby tournament, previously known as “The Warsaw 10s”, has become one of the hottest dates of the year for Warsaw-based rugger buggers.
This year’s festival will take place at AWF Warszawa, Marymoncka 34, on May 23rd & 24th. The games will be played on two pitches with a total 20 teams from 11 countries signed up to play. In addition there will also be the Ladies 7s Cup, and an exhibition game played by the Junior Frogs and an invitationed Polish team. Besides the (Russian) champagne rugby, the hosts have ensured that everyone will be entertained: Sunday will see a bouncy castle and other activities for kids, while additionally teams representing “unpopular” Warsaw sports have been invited to set up stalls in order to drum up popularity.
And of course there will be a beer garden, there will be food, and you will be able to buy rugby memorabilia at the event. On top of this there will be a raffle giveaway featuting ‘stuff’ that touring teams have brought along with all the winnings going to charity. Admission is free.
