First born in the shopping centres of Warsaw, a Tik Tok trend called ‘crawling’ has spread across the world and become the focus of global media attention.
Beginning several weeks ago when one Tik Tokker calling himself Crawly_Possessed started posting videos of himself dropping to the floor before crawling around stores, showrooms and fast-food outlets, the craze has now developed further with small groups of youths converging on malls before crawling around in the form a human centipede.
Soundtracked to audio of dramatic screams, latest actions have seen over a dozen people ‘invade’ the likes of KFC, Timberland and Mango before falling to their knees and proceeding to crawl among baffled shoppers and puzzled security staff.

Among others, Galeria Bemowo, Wola Park, Złote Tarasy and Arkadia have so far fallen foul of ‘crawlers’. Described as a cult in the online bio, the most popular video on the channel has scored more than 41 million views.
Since spreading to the UK, the trend has caused tabloid hysteria with the Daily Mail raising concerns about its “bizarre and intrusive nature”. Continuing, the Daily Mail wrote: “This trend not only questions the limits of social media influence on real world actions but also poses a challenge to
public order and the safety of everyday spaces.”
Others have likewise been left unimpressed. “Imagine if they had that sense of purpose over anything that actually mattered,” wrote one critic on the Mail’s comments section. “Generation of idiots,” added another, “our future looks brilliant”.
