In 2023, the JAZZ PO POLSKU Around the World project held more than 60 concerts on three continents. They were attended by 30 musicians who visited as many as 10 countries, playing original music in North America, Asia and Europe!
The JAZZ PO POLSKU Around the World tour, carried outimplemented from April to October 2023, featured leading Polish artists of the independent jazz and improvised music scene. Participants included Piotr Krępeć (April: China), Michał Ciesielski Band (May: China, Vietnam), Mateusz Gawęda Trio (June: China, Japan), Piotr Lemańczyk Electric Band (July: Canada), Piotr Damasiewicz Into The Roots (August: Croatia), Rafał Sarnecki-Adam Zagórski (August: Israel), The Flash! (August: Romania), Confusion Project (September: China), Paweł Kaczmarczyk Trio (October: Romania), EARTH (October: Albania, Romania, Serbia), Tomasz Chyła Quintet (October: China, Taiwan). The musicians played original repertoire for international audiences, as well as created special events in cooperation with local artists.
We have completed the first stage of the long-term project JAZZ PO POLSKU Around the World. This year we visited as many as 10 countries, where we held more than 60 events – concerts, workshops, jam sessions. The project will continue for two more years, and during that time we hope to visit the farthest corners of the world with Polish jazz – said Jakub Krzeszowski, creator of JAZZ PO POLSKU.
Polish artists performed on festivals and club stages in Albania, China, Croatia, Israel, Japan, Canada, Romania, Serbia, Vietnam, and Taiwan. The musicians took part in renowned festivals, including the Taichung Jazz Festival (Taiwan), Smida Jazz Festival (Romania), Calgary Jazz Festival (Canada), Internal Compass Summer Jazz Festival (Israel), International Festival Jazz in Albania, Jazz U Vinogradu Festival (Croatia) as well as the legendary Blue Note clubs in Beijing and Shanghai and Pit Inn in Tokyo, among others. The achievements and adventures of Polish musicians in the Around the World project are documented by director and filmmaker Maciej Glowinski. A series of documentaries devoted to the project will soon be released.
The JAZZ PO POLSKU Around the World project is inspired by the achievements of Polish traveller Pawel Edmund Strzelecki, who was the first Pole to circumnavigate the World on his own initiative. Strzelecki made a remarkable journey in 1834-1843, during which he conducted extensive geological and geographical research, contributing to the development of knowledge about the modern World.
The organizer of the JAZZ PO POLSKU Around the World project is the JAZZ PO POLSKU Foundation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assumed honorary patronage of the project. Partners of the project are the PZU Foundation and the Industrial Development Agency Foundation. The strategic partner of the project was Podlaskie Voivodeship. Patronage of the project was granted by the National Chamber of Commerce (KIG), the Foundation Institute of Economic Diplomacy, Jazz Forum, Warsaw Insider. In 2023, the project was implemented in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Tirana, the Polish Embassy in Belgrade; the Polish Institute in Bucharest, the Polish Institute in Beijing, the Polish Institute in Tokyo; the Polish Consulate General in Chengdu, the Polish Consulate General in Guangzhou, the Polish Consulate General in Shanghai, the Polish Office in Taipei.
