With Warsaw’s foodies hung up on broadening their palate and exploring new, crazy tastes, there’s an underlying feeling that more obvious cuisines have been at times forgotten. Take Italian. Once the darling food of Warsaw, for several years its been a sub-genre in decline. At least up until now. The last few months have brought with them a few notable openings, and none have been bigger than Altro Locale. Set in a quiet section of Old Mokotów, it’s little wonder the plaudits haven’t ceased. Owned by chef Andrea Carillo, authentic, homespun tastes vie for attention inside a charming space that’s chic and modern but never spartan. Already considered a neighborhood hero, it’s reputation is now extending beyond the district’s natural border. Full review, next month.
