The Dialogue Centre Przełomy – a department of the National Museum in Szczeczin – has been named as the World Building of the Year at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin.
Submerged under a sloping concrete plaza, the underground museum covers a 50-year period beginning with the outbreak of WWII and ending with the fall of communism. David Chipperfield, the chairman of the adjudication panel, noted the following: “This is a piece of topography as well as a museum… the design addresses the past in an optimistic, poetic and imaginative way.”
